C3P—An all in one curriculum or curriculum resource for high school physics teachers.

Presenter: Stephen Scannel

sscannel@teleport.com

C3P is a curriculum project designed to implement research from physics education into high school physics courses.  The curriculum is contained on a CD-ROM and contains every-thing from learning objectives, daily lesson plans, assessment tools, to video clips, MBL activities, and more.  Future C3P workshops will be discussed.

The Oregon Budget Crisis

Dennis Gilbert—Lane Community College gilbertd@lanecc.edu

Over the past two years, we have seen several TYC’s in Oregon abandon their physics programs, classes cut at high schools and tuition going up at the Universities.  How is the budget crisis affecting your institution’s instruction of physics?  The goal of this workshop is to discuss the situation and write a letter to be presented at the 3:00pm business meeting for possible distribution to our state representatives, school boards and newspapers.

CLEA II— The Universe on a Desktop:
Observational Astronomy Simulations in the Instructional Laboratory

Presenter: Dick Cooper Gettysburg College, PA

dcooper@gettysburg.edu

More CLEA exercises.  You need not attend the first CLEA workshop to attend this hour of CLEA fun.

2:30pm  Corinne Manogue and Tevian Dray—Oregon State University  corinne@physics.orst.edu
“Bridging the Gap”  Physics teachers have all experienced the problems their students have applying the math they have learned in mathematics classes to physics problems.  We will discuss details of why this occurs and explicit strategies to ameliorate the situation.

3:00pm  Business Meeting

Everyone is invited to the Business Meeting.  You are a member of Oregon AAPT by simply attending a meeting.  New officers will be nominated and elected (you may nominate someone before the meeting by dropping an e-mail to Walt at hellman@teleport.com).  The results of the “Oregon Budget Crisis” workshop will be also discussed during the Business Meeting.
